It's the Exciting edition of LJ
It's been ages, and after reading up on some old friends (some of whom are making ads, omg!), I thought I'd make a post of my own.

Getting work as a counselor proved harder than expected. Even having the right contacts (family friends in the field), it proved to be too difficult for Perth. So I got what seemed to be a temporary job working with statistics in... the bureau of statistics of all places.

Turns out the people there are nice and friendly. Having team sport matches (mostly soccer) and at least weekly drinks after work (free beer - ugh), and more lunches than you could possibly afford to go to. Anytime something happens, it's a chance to celebrate. Someone's leaving, lets have a big tea break with cake. Someone got a good performance review, lets do it again! Finished something hard (even if no one else had an idea it was happening) uhh, lets have finger food this time.

After some months I jumped onto the workplace forum and saw a comment I disagreed with. Make a one line post, and it was on for young and old. People joined in left right and center. But by the end it was me and another doing the hard slog. So now I've a reputation for being the great debater. People I don't know stop me in the corridor and say 'wow, that was great!! - the debate!'. When I'm meeting with the executives, the secretary comments on it as I'm walked there, and the big boss says I did good. Big surprise for me as I thought at first it was too heavy for a workplace, but it seems that it was just the entertainment that everyone wanted.

In other news, I got myself a great phone (second hand) for my birthday. An O2 xda. This thing is a portable (mini) computer, media player (just like windows), outlook, explorer (internet), word, excel, access, games.. and when I say games, I mean the games that used to play on your old computer (quake, doom, lemmings, UFO, etc). I love it!

Only yesterday it crashed requiring a reboot. Fair enough, all computers do this. So after everything was installed, I figured I'd restore all my previous information (I was out and thought I had it backed up on the phone itself). So after about 20 seconds everything seems good... except this isn't my contact list, it was the previous owners.

I have a slight chuckle to myself and decide to take care of it at home. Only while closing back to the desktop, I noticed there was one highly urgent task in the list... so my curiosity got the better of me. I opened it up and there's a suitable list of completed tasks, but at the very top, was 'Clean Vagina!!' gee.. I hope she remembered! :D

It's the Living Life edition of LJ
It turns out that things don't change much.. No matter what happens (within reason) around your life, 'you' don't change that much. More/Less work and money.. it's still you. Getting offered work over East for nearly 2 thousand a week, I'm still me with the same hopes and dreams. Extra money from a completed contract with the Government.. my car may break down, and I can afford to fix it, but not much else has changed.

Sharon has taken me out shopping.. we got some nice new clothes (the ones with actual 'names'), a digital camera, DVD player.. and other things. But I only look different.

I'm not sure at what point we become different people, or whether we can measure that difference. I only know that it's a slow process.. aside from the psychic slap to the head that we occasionally get. A tutor in Wednesdays class said that we are our brains.. meaning we are made up of electrical/chemical processes that determine our 'method of behaviour'. "stick your brain in a jar, you may feel a little strange, but you'd still be you". So it seems that life events wont change me.. quickly at least.

This isn't to say that I'm looking for change... only that I expected to feel different once Uni drew to a close and work started up.

In any case, the following is a run down of what has been happening:

Worked on Kinohimitsu (Australia / New Zealand) website; put on hold for the moment.
    Started a business (Munro Designs).
Worked for SASB and REBA; creating design and layout for annual reports.
Got offered work for Green Aussie Cleaner starting once I finish the semester.. haven't heard back for over a week now, so unsure as to what is happening.
Offered work for an artist who is looking to make two websites.
Started work as the Returning Officer for the student/guild elections.

    Minor more recent events:
Went camping with Sharon at her family block (in an effort to help weed a little.. no, not smoke it, actually pull weeds out of the ground). Forgot tent polls, which happen to be in as big a bag as the actual tent (you can stand up inside it), and blow up mattress is missing a plug. Ended up coming home to cook up the $20 worth of meat we got.. was great!!

Sharon looses her keys.. (to the abyss). We move her car out of the way to get mine out (shutting my hand in the door; still hurts). My car breaks down because of an overheating (poorly reattached pipes from when the mechanic fixed the thermostat O-rings). Alternator also breaks. Managed to get Sharon to the bus stop and then back to the mechanic before the car finally dies and wont restart.

Car gets fixed, Honda alternators are expensive.. more so than other brands. Sharon finds her keys, which are returned from the abyss. We searched the house many times over looking for them. They ended up being on top of her glory box, which had been opened (lid vertical) several times, with the somehow invisible and weightless keys not moving from its surface.

Now I'm working on the broadsheet for this years elections, and then going rock climbing this afternoon. My hand shouldn't be too difficult to work with. Besides, it's not like I weigh that much.. but saying that, I've almost put on the desired 10 extra kilos... despite it taking me 4 years (so far) for a near total of 70 kilos.

Sharon is great! Aside from when she sticks her fingers in my ears (wet or not..)
So many people thought we wouldn't work out together. It's not so much about proving them wrong.. but about showing them that there is always more to people than what you may see. We are an excellent couple in so many ways that others are unable to see. But in a way that is good.. (we all like our mysteries) :D

ohh.. had a flying dream last night! First dream in months.. I think the last one was about a crab screaming as it had its shell ripped off. It was the first dream that had a negative effect on me.. perhaps a nightmare that so many people speak about. The dream itself doesn't really bother me anymore, but crab isn't really on my 'edible' list at the moment. But the flying dream was great :P must have more dreams!

Anyhow.. must get back to work.

It's the Painful Work edition of LJ
I've managed to pick up some work with Don Vita after getting some more web design work. Rather than miss out on the extra cash, I did the casual work for Don Vita... when now I'm regretting it. I've had some allergic reaction to the foods they stock (that I work with) and my hands are red, swollen, and very sore. Added to the general discomfort, is that it has recently become harder to breath... I doubt that it'll get much worse, thou it really does cancel out the possibility of being able to work there through next semester (and have the extra cash that I'd like).

Thou I will say it's the first food preparation warehouse that hasn't deterred me from buying their products. Everyone is ultra hygenic, and every item that comes in contact with food/ground/hands/water/anything are thoroughly steralised. They are certainly paranoid about the quality of their food. Thou this has the unfortunate side-effect of me being forced to wash my hands between each task... Yes, even thou the cheese is going to be added to the olives in 5 minutes anyhow.

It also seems that every warehouse job asks for applicants to have a forklift license.. thou if you already work in that warehouse, you are fine to use it(the forklift)... Once again I have demonstrated a keen ability to navigate tight corners in small spaces while missing tons of goods by scant centermeters; without a license.

It's the Idiot Comments edition of LJ
Here's me pointing at a bucket of olives, talking to the storeman.

Me: If you fill up one of your containers with them, about how much will it weigh?
Idiot: That depends on how much you put in it..

And I was thinking of passing money over for him to count.

I've decided to switch over to the DVORAK keyboard layout, which means learning to type again. This was a bad move when I had two assignments due. Still the layout is far far better and I was able to start off touch typing; just memorising the keys... and guessing when needed.

Old habits are hard to break!

It's the Family Names edition of LJ
I just today found out that my dad's name is William.. and not Robert as I have previously thought. I'm sure readers will find some shock and humour in this, but it is actually some relief for me. My middle name is Robert, and I had always thought that I was named after my dad - who used to beat me because I looked more like my mum than him.

... there's not much more I can say on this.. I just feel different now.

It's the Drop and Roll Edition of LJ
Once upon a time there were four friends going out for dinner at a chinese restaurant.. but it was booked out. So the food was ordered for take away. During the wait for the food to be cooked, it was decided that some wine would go nicely with dinner.

So the four friends happily ran off to the tavern drive through, which was only a short walk from the restaurant. Long debates over which wine ensued. Little did the four friends know, that outside a disaster was in the making.

A commotion drew the four friends outside where an exciting chick-fight was occuring. The chicks exchanged some 'friendly banter' while lovingly pulling each others hair and scratching their faces. They soon disentangled and, slightly flushed, one of them departed screaming a few more sweet nothings at her friend.

But this wasn't the end of the excitement. The remaining girl, hearing some unwanted comments from a person in a car decided to jump up on his bonnet. She playfully jumped around and stamped her feet before the driver, who must have been lost in the excitement, thought that driving with a girl on the bonnet would have been quite fun.

Out of the drive through he shot (with his much needed alcohol), with the girl on the bonnet no longer on the bonnet. She wasn't able to keep her balance. She dropped and rolled, and flailed around with much-a-do. The driver mustn't have seen her as he departed swiftly, never to be seen again (except by the police looking at the cameras in the drive-throu).

Now the four friends thought that special attention needed to be paid to the girl on the ground. She'd obviously had too much fun and was exhausted.. she couldn't even feel her legs. An ambulance was called, and she was calmed by a very helpful person (one of the four friends).

Now, the exhausted girls boyfriend didn't want to miss out on the excitement. He wanted to know who the driver was. He asked and asked, and finally found someone who was a friend to the driver. Now, you might be surprised to know that they also wanted to exchange some friendly banter, and ended up having a game of what looked like tag.

By the time the ambulance arrived, the four friends' food was ready. They said their goodbyes to their new friends and drove off home to enjoy a fantastic dinner. They were glad that their lives were so exciting.

It's the 'Ohh damn..' edition of LJ
Since I had my teeth pulled out, I've had this area along my gum that just hasn't healed properly. I figured it was because of all the needles and 'does this hurt.. how about this' testing the dentist did.

Of course, it turned out that a piece of tooth broke off and was making its way out through the side of my gum. (Sorry for those squeemish viewers) I managed to pull it out today. This brings up thoughts about making the effort to get compensation.. but it honestly didn't hurt or cause too much trouble (and saying this here possibly reduces my chances of getting anything should I wish to make the effort).

    Ahh well.. it's over now.

It's the Continued Studies edition of LJ
My meeting with Iain didn't go as well as I'd hoped.. but that's ok. I can still sort out some things that work for me.

I'll either have to study part time next semester and get my Bachelor of Psychology.
Or I can study full time and get a Bachelor of Psychology and perhaps a minor in Organisational Psych.
Or there's a chance that I can study full time and add a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Arts.

I've been doing what I can to make things work.. but it seems that the Uni doesn't want to make things easy. Whichever way things go, I'll have to find enough work to support myself.

It's the Hard Times edition of LJ
Sometimes things are just harder than they should be. Or at least they seem harder, which is still bad.

I've recently had two teeth pulled out.. recently being three weeks ago. There was a nine month waiting list for this hospital operation, because the wisdom tooth was embedded in the jaw and passed through two nerve pathways. So this tooth goes bad, and causes the one next to it to go bad too.. and the one next to that. Which leaves me with increasingly bad breath for nine months, and increasing pain. So I'm taking pain killers daily and my boss things I'm on drugs, and I make silly comments in class, and phase out of conversations. Time comes, and I receive a letter for, no not a hospital visit, but a normal dentist (they placed me on the wrong waiting list).

The new dentists took more X-rays and lo and behold. The tooth isn't embedded in the jaw, doesn't go through two nerve pathways and they can take it out now.. oh, but the one next to it has to come out as well now, and the one next to that may need a root canal job (still pending).

So I get the teeth pulled... Which makes 10 and 1 more to go.

I have a absolutely fantastic birthday (thanks to my beautiful girlfriend). Managed to pick up a great fishing set, a new wallet, a video card, and a trax voucher. Now, this may sound like me having a winge, but it's just my playful way of finding humour in how things turned out - they will all work out in the end, it just wont be as easy as it could have been. I washed the trax voucher, after searching (days at) multiple complexes looking for a store (but they'd all closed; bah (even in the big city)). So I'll have to sort out something with the givers (as long as they've still got the receipt). The video card is the wrong type, and the AGP version isn't available. Which means I can get a sub-standard video card for general office use, or spend over $100 extra on a decent card for games (yay). So I'll have to wait (already gotten the refund) and get the new-better card next week.

And the fishing gear. well... if I expected to spend 4 hours fishing and actually catch something; I was wrong. And by something, I'm not counting the blow-fish I snagged through the anus (yes, I hooked it through the arse and hauled it in - either it didn't know how to eat, or it had a bad opinion of the lunch that was being offered). But there's this weekend when we're planning on going again (at a more fish-friendly, human-notsofriendly hour) this weekend. Thou I may be able to sneek in another trip on Thursday while Sharon is at work (shhh..!! - oohh.. she reads this. Damn).

Now.. here's where things get interesting. Two days after my birthday, I'm given an email stating that I've not completed all the requirments for my degree. "Thanks for telling me when I could have done something about it" - "we have to wait till after the HECS census date (ed: so we can get more money out of you poor sorry bastards, BWAHAHEHEHAHAAAWWWW)". Which really shits me because I took on two extra (random and unneeded) units this semester just so I could be full-time, and of course, these units could have been the two that I needed to fulfill. So I'm having to speak to the Dean of Psychology (who, luckily, I did my thesis with, and know) to sort out perhaps an exemption (like others I know have), or at worst an Independent Study Contract, which I'm told looks good on a resume (when really it should look like you've stuffed up and have to do some extra work because you're an idiot - yes, I'm having a joke about myself here).

In any case, it doesn't look like I'll be graduating as planned. But on the plus side, I've had a look at the wages for the type of work I want to do (recruitment), and it's more than satisfactory - in fact, it's pretty damn good. And there are opportunities to work part time in a various places, which will help greatly when finding a proper full time job after I graduate. And the extra money made from part time work will be a blessing, as I'm really feeling the sting of being (recently) unemployed - thou I never got a mention that I wasn't working anymore.. it just sorta faded away.

It seems like the 'time of trials' that I've been told about is upon me. The last year and a half as been the "universe leaving me be" and everything has gone relatively smoothly... but now, I'm going through some emotional change phase where I will be forever altered as a person (hopefully in a good way). And, I've got a good year or more of it (depending on how quickly I learn). Luckily I've got a great girlfriend who is always there for me, and me for her.

Well.. enough of all this. I've got a class coming up that I need to study for.

It's the Cool Joke edition of LJ
I don't usually post jokes in here (having a rather large collection on my computer), but this one was impressive enough to warrent it.

A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, "Harry, what's your problem?" Harry answered, "I'm too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!" Ms. Brooks had had enough so she took Harry to the principal's office.

While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed. Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

    Principal: "What is 3 x 3 ?" Harry: "9" Principal: "What is 6 x 6?" Harry: "36".

And so it went with every question the principal thought a 3rd grader should know. The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, "I think Harry can go to the 3rd grade." Ms. Brooks says to the principal, "Let me ask him some questions." The principal and Harry both agreed.

Ms. Brooks asks, "What does a cow have four of that I have only two of?" Harry, after a moment: "Legs." Ms. Brooks: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?" The principal wondered, why would she ask such a question! Harry replied: "Pockets!"

Ms. Brooks: "What does a dog do that a man steps into?" Harry: "Pants". Ms. Brooks: What's starts with a C and ends with a T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin, whitish liquid?" Harry: "Coconut."

The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open. Ms. Brooks: "What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky?" The principal's eyes opened really wide and before he could stop the answer. Harry: "Bubble gum"

Ms. Brooks: "What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?" Harry: "Shake hands." The principal was trembling.

Ms. Brooks: "What word starts with an 'F' and ends in 'UCK' that means a lot of heat and excitement?" Harry: "Fire Truck".

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, "Put Harry in the fifth-grade, I got the last seven questions wrong.

It's the Fated edition of LJ
It's one of those times that couldn't be just chance...

My mum wrote a book about 8 or 9 years ago, and I got a signed copy... which went missing. I managed to read it, but was saddened to find that it was no longer in my possession. About a year later I decided that it was time to get another copy, which also went missing. I've no idea how these books were lost/stolen/borrowed, but I've never lost a book, nor have I lent books to other people. They just 'went missing'...

So time goes on and I get a partner who gives me the nickname 'kitty' which is mostly used in private (thou not 'private' as some might be led to believe). She hears that my mum wrote a book, and how I've lost copies before, and then goes about finding a copy for me for valentines day.

What's surprising is that the copy that gets sent over is also a signed copy from my mum, written out to 'kitty'. I'm looking at it trying to work out why Sharon has signed her name as Wendy, and why her handwriting looks oddly familiar. So she gets extra loves and hugs tonight. She's by far the best partner I could ever ask for (I take this as an approval from my mum too).

I'll have to read the book again and find the message that I should have now :)

It's the Who? Where? edition of LJ
It's been a very long time since I posted... and for those who still have me listed as a friend, and still check your LJ: Surprise!! :)

Truth be told.. I'm not entirely sure what my last post was. I vaguely remember something about a houses waring on each other. And as an update to that, the wall has been repaired, but the residents have not yet moved back in. Nothing else is known.

I've been drinking a lot more than usual lately.. which still is a relatively small amount, but I guess it's worth mentioning. Sharon still wants me to get roaring drunk, which I haven't done with her yet. Not sure if I still can before getting ill. Not that I'm unhealthy.. just alcohol treats me a little differently than it used to.

Uni is about ready to start... which can be good, but only maybe so. Taking two first year units in my fifth year should make my very last semester very easy. But lets not speak too soon.. I'm having to do a 3rd year Writing for the Screen unit which I should not be able to take. It's for a creative writing minor, which I wouldn't otherwise be able to finish this semester.

But apart from work, crazy people tryint to run over my g/f, sleazy friends, greasy cars, and people I thought were nice burning our flag... it's been quite a relaxing holiday. Oh yeh.. I'd tried so hard to block it out of my memory, but Sharon's parents/family demanded enough visits to last me the year.

It's the OMG CAR!! edition of LJ
It's been one of those nights that occasionally happen to people. It's exciting, yet not really directly related to the person telling the story. Well.. it sort of is, but in a minor way. In this story, I'm just an observer. :)

I saw what seemed to be an inconsiderate person reversing their car out into the road in front of me. I'd just come around the corner and was moving slowly.. slowly enough to notice and not speed up. Of course, this reversing car had a phantom driver, and rather than putting on any breaks or turning, it went straight down the slope (which is steep enough to warrant putting on your hand brake when parking).

With some trepidation I bring my car to a stop as the phantom driver continues straight across the road through a brick wall (clearly built as a defensive measure against such drivers) and into the house, breaking windows and cracking walls. Sharon, who was sitting beside me, raises her voice "Oh My God!".

I park my car and we get out, instictively I head towards the attacking house, while Sharon proceeds to the defending house. There's a clear winner in this war, and the participants need to know about it. "Hey, you've got a problem out here" I say as the home owner appears.

"What?" A shaven headed, but friendly man appears.

"There's a bit of a problem over here..." I say pointing.

"You've got a problem..?" It seems he's as confused as the defending homes' owners who are trying to work out what's happened.

    "No.. You have."

It turned out that an alternate resident at the attacking home had borrowed his friends car. Carefully ignoring the fact that he doesn't have a license, he parked this car on a slight decline - without a handbrake on. The incline was slight enough for the car, to allow him to head inside and watch TV while your faithful story-teller came around the corner, before building enough momemtum to cause concern.

The defending house having twice before suffered similar attacks, and having neibours suffering similar attacks were shaken but not overly surprised by this new and more severe onslaught. The defensive structure had only recently been repaired since the last attack 3 months ago, but was insufficient to ward the blow. The phantom driver managed to continue to the wall of the house causing severe cracking along two sides of the walls.

Interestingly, the attacking homes car owner doesn't have insurance. This brings on some bigger issues than rain water on exposed and damaged electircal wiring. The car borrower either needs to be declaired as a thief (grand theft auto style) or the car owner needs to admit he lent his car to a person without a license. Then the real estate needs to sort out who's to blame, and sue them for some extensive damage (but then they'd have done this several times already).

To end, I'd like to say thank you to Sharon who was there by my side through this entire ordeal, isn't she lovely!

It's the Returnening Edition of LJ
Lots to tell this entry. Mostly because it's been a while.

My last post detailed a bast'd four wheel drive event... which it turns out has written my car off. The engine cradle has been twisted by an entire 30mm (which apparently is lot) and my car is now deemed to be unsafe to drive. It will cost over $1000 to fix, and seeing as that's half the value of the car itself... I may have to sell it as scrap or trade it in on a new (second hand) car.

So, I've moved house with the lady (cant remember if I said that in my last post). Things are great at home. Far far better than the SV (now that I've finally got some form of internet and dont have to travel to Uni for it).

My thesis is going along.. sort of. Done a bit of reading for it, and got half again over our desired responses for our survey. Having it online made things so much easier. Now I've got just over three weeks to produce a draft, and another four weeks after that to hand in the final copy.

The nice folks at the Housing Office forwarded my name to the Alumni / Careers centre who gave me an interview for a job - which I didn't get. But while I was there they saw that I could design web pages... and hired me to make one for a new program they've set up. Which kills two birds with one stone.. work = money (yay) and I needed a program to use in my Advanced Topic C project.

And seeing that I was looking for work the Careers / Alumni centre forwarded my name onto another job with the Uni. So I head up for an interview for a Returning Officer position, which turns out to me more of a 'Congratulations, you've got the job' and details of what's expected of me. So I'll be overseeing the Guild Elections - no I don't take bribes...

Both jobs pay exactly the same, and it's easily the most of I've made per hour in any job.

Which leaves my Work Placement which has to be done this semester. The lecturer is fairly... slack, and seems to want to do as little as possible. So it's been left to me to find a place. After hearing about some of the things that go on in the Careers / Alumni centre I decide I might as well offer them some free labour. It turns out that they're more than happy to have me on, and even offered to pay me - which I may end up declining on moral grounds (we'll see).

So, all this along with my hobbies taking off (web based game), and it seems that things are great. Thou after having so little to do for so long, being busy is unusual. I'm hoping I can fall back into the habit of not having too much time to myself.

It's the OMG Four-Wheel-Drive Edition of LJ
Things have been going fairly well. Except for my mood lately. It seems that I've just been pushed a little too far and am now taking it out on the world with my bad attitude.

Things with moving (or getting things organised with moving) had been going well. I finished my exams, and did well enough. Holidays started and there seemed to be little to occupy my time with besides Sharon (and that's a good thing).

Only last night things changed. We were headed out to the usual Thursday night group TV, wine, talking shit event. We ended up leaving late due to a computer virus (fresh install - twice), and were just leaving home... We've got a three lane road, a big island, and another three lanes. There's a left hand turn which doesn't allow access through the island from the other side of the road... unless you're a big bad ass four wheel drive and are in a hurry enough to cut in front of me. This wouldn't have been so bad if the four wheel drive hadn't ripped the curb off the island and scattered it out in front of me.

So two solid hits, my back tire cracks under the impact, and I take the next exit I can (the BP servo). While I'm try'n to sort out how much damage there is, another car pulls into the servo - same problem (flat tire). So it takes an hour in the rain jacking my car up without the proper extension before I'm ready to go again. There ended up to be about 7 or so cars that we noted who were struck by the curbing, all with flat tires. Each section was a couple of inches shy of a foot thick... (it was moved off the road).

So, organising a computer format, a flat tire, and today; dealing with income verification issues with bond assistance and real estate agents (drove around from 10.30 till 3.30, with no resolution) has put me in a pretty foul mood.

The holidays are meant to be fun and relaxing... which I'm not experiencing at the moment.
